Founded in 2001 by civil engineer Daniel Murphy after a career at Bechtel. The office is at 4221 Wilshire Boulevard. Typical work is mechanical, electrical, and plumbing packages, design-build interiors, site utilities, and system upgrades in occupied buildings.

On data centre work, Murphy Prime prefabricates distribution so handover comes earlier. Since 2015 the practice has produced more than 40,000 MEP modules, each generated in Revit and coordinated with the shop-drawing model. Historical rates show roughly 40–60% fewer installation hours than conventional stick-build.

Why an MEP contractor as the lead on a data centre?
A data centre is an MEP project. Civil and architectural work houses the equipment. When the MEP contractor leads, long-lead plant, milestones, and modular design drive the programme instead of sitting behind a civil subcontract.
What does design-build change for the owner?
The package can be awarded early against a budget. Murphy Prime advises whether the number is real, and the owner is not left paying for design gaps that appear after a build-only award.
How does the model survive into operations?
One BIM model runs from design through shop drawings, prefabrication, and handover. Clash detection happens while the design is still open, and the operations team inherits equipment sizes that match what was installed.
