Services

Data centres, led by the MEP contractor.

Within the data centre sector, Murphy Prime Construction provides civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and firefighting contracting through an in-house team of engineers, construction staff, and commissioning specialists. The practice delivers hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise facilities.

Speed comes from off-site manufacturing and a digital model that keeps every trade on the same set. On data centre projects, about 70 percent of first- and second-fix MEP distribution is prefabricated, which shortens the site programme and brings handover forward. Off-site work covers corridor modules, plant skids, and repeatable distribution racks that can be tested before they are shipped.

Why the MEP contractor should lead

A data centre is primarily an MEP project. Civil, structural, and architectural work houses the equipment. Most civil general contractors subcontract the services package, then try to drive a programme that is actually governed by long-lead plant, power, and cooling.

Engaging the MEP contractor as main contractor lets the schedule follow those milestones. Early involvement also lets modular systems be designed in, instead of forced into a finished shell. That integration saves time and reduces the layered mark-up that appears when MEP sits two contracts below the owner.

Hyperscale

Repeatable halls, heavy power, and cooling plant sequenced from the model.

Colocation

Phased halls that have to stay live while the next suite is built.

Enterprise

Owner-operated rooms where access, redundancy, and close-out matter as much as speed.

Commissioning

The same team that modelled the plant stays through test and handover.
